Environmental Clearance (EC)

From screening to the final clearance letter, we manage the Environmental Clearance process for industrial, construction and infrastructure projects.

Quick answer

Projects listed in the EIA Notification, 2006 — large construction projects, specified industries, mining and infrastructure — need prior Environmental Clearance (EC) from SEIAA Maharashtra (Category B) or MoEFCC (Category A). The process covers Form 1, Terms of Reference, EIA study, public hearing where required, appraisal and six-monthly compliance reports after approval.

Overview

Projects listed in the schedule of the EIA Notification, 2006, such as large construction and township projects, specified industries, mining and infrastructure, need prior Environmental Clearance (EC) before work starts. Category A projects are appraised at the central level (MoEFCC), and Category B projects at the state level (SEIAA Maharashtra).

The EC process involves several stages: screening, scoping and Terms of Reference, baseline studies, the EIA report, public consultation where applicable, and appraisal by the expert committee. We coordinate every stage, prepare the documents, work with accredited EIA consultants and laboratories where required, and answer committee queries until the clearance is granted. After EC, we prepare the mandatory six-monthly compliance reports.

FAQ

Environmental Clearance (EC): frequently asked questions

Does my building project need Environmental Clearance?
Building and construction projects above the built-up area limit specified in the EIA Notification need EC from SEIAA before construction. We check your area statement and confirm whether EC applies.
How long does Environmental Clearance take?
Category B projects appraised by SEIAA Maharashtra commonly take a few months, and Category A projects take longer because of central appraisal and public hearing. Complete documentation from day one is the biggest factor in avoiding delays.
What happens after EC is granted?
The EC letter has specific and general conditions. Project proponents must comply with them and submit six-monthly compliance reports. We prepare and file these reports for you.
